Dèf Fondamantal, born Rhod D'Jyvens Télémaque, is a Haitian rapper from Cité Castro (Delmas 33). He began his career under the stage name D-Fi Powèt Revòlte before evolving into Dèf Fondamantal, a name reflecting his artistic and personal growth.
He was born on September 14, 1991, to parents Marie Esther Louis and Duloncle Télémaque. He finished his primary education at the Institution Jean-Marie Guilloux, attended Saint Louis de Gonzague for his secondary education, and completed his classical studies at the Collège Frantz Paillière.
At the age of 14, he first realized his passion for music and poetry when his mother gave him his first book of poetry. This new interest prompted him to form his first band, Jazz Limine, with his younger brother Passa, Stéphane, Wellborn and a few other friends.
Dèf Fondamantal doesn’t just make music, he lives it. Each lyric and emotion in his songs offers a glimpse into his own experiences and those of young individuals facing challenges in the streets. His music serves as a powerful tool in the fight against oppressive systems, giving a voice to those who often go unheard.
In 2018, his album Kwonik Yon Getoyout (KGY) marked a significant moment in Haitian underground rap, showcasing his thoughtful, dedicated, and lyrically profound style. Since then, Dèf has consistently produced musical projects, maintaining his commitment to making rap a force for good.
They call him 'the Picasso of the Ghetto,' and if anyone asks, tell them the streets crown him the finest lyricist in Haitian rap—straight out of Castro.
